New Delhi, Jan 6: As many as 125 passengers who reached Amritsar in a chartered flight from Italy on Thursday have tested positive for COVID-19. As per reports, the flight that arrived in Amritsar around 1:30 pm had 179 passengers including 19 children on board. The Union Health Ministry has said that all the adult passengers were tested on arrival at Amritsar as Italy is one of the high-risk countries for Omicron. A report earlier claimed that the flight from Italy belonged to Air India. However, Air India later clarified through a tweet that it was a chartered flight and termed the information ‘wrong and baseless.’ "Several media houses have reported that Passengers of Air India flight from Rome to Amritsar have been tested covid positive. This is wrong and baseless. Air India doesn't operate any flight from Rome currently," Air India tweeted. Meanwhile, India reported 90,928 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 56 percent higher than yesterday’s 58,097 cases. According to the Union Health Ministry’s data, the active cases in the country currently stand at 2.85 lakh while the recovery rate in the country currently stands at 97.81 percent. A total of 19,206 people have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, pushing the total recovery to 3.43 crore.
