Bhubaneswar: Normal life in Kalahandi district has been severely affected as a 12-hour bandh is being observed by lawyers, demanding establishment of a permanent High Court Bench in the district.
All political parties and general people have supported the bandh, according to reports.
Schools, colleges, shops and bazaars have remained closed. Vehicular movement has been disrupted as activists have blocked roads at different places.
“According to Yashobant Commission recommendations, the KBK region deseves to get a High Court Bench at it is 450 km away from High Court in Cuttack. And Kalahandi is in the centre of the KBK region. Hence, we demand that a HC Bench established here,” said agitating lawyers.
Adequate police personnel have been deployed to ensure that no untoward incident occurs during the bandh.
