Bhubaneswar, Jan 14: Khordha Police today seized 11 laterite stone-laden trucks from various places in the district. Police said that the value of the seized laterite stones will be in lakhs.
Police said that several police stations in the district conducted raids to prevent smuggling of stones and seized the trucks. Police have also arrested six persons in this connection.
In the first week of this month, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered probe by a Special Task Force (STF) into large-scale illegal laterite stone mining in Khordha district.
The NGT had issued the direction basing on a petition filed by Bidu Bhusan Harichandan, a resident of Tapang and Dilip Samantaray, a social activist from Ranpur.
