Bhubaneswar: Over 1,000 heads of cattle, which were being illegally transported in six containers, were seized at Nitanandapur in Dhenkanal district early this morning.
According to reports, a special squad of the Odisha police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the trucks transporting cattle at Nityanandapur. However, miscreants who were following the containers opened fire at the police team. Nobody was injured in the incident. Police managed to seize the trucks and three light vehicles.
The police also arrested six persons, including four drivers, from the spot. Other drivers and miscreants managed to flee from the spot.
All the cattle have been taking to nearby goshalas, said reports.
