1 killed, 8 critical in two separate road accidents in Odisha

Angul/Salepur, Feb 21: A 27-year-old man died and another sustained critical injuries as a bus hit the motorcycle they were travelling on NH 55 in Angul district today. The deceased has been identified as Gagul Nayak and the injured as Sukura Nayak. According to the locals, Gagul and Sukura were going for some work on their motorcycle when a speeding bus hit them from behind. Subsequently, Gagul succumbed to his injuries at the spot and the passerby admitted Sukura to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) at Angul. Further, he was shifted to the SCB Hospital in Cuttack as his condition deteriorated. Irate over the incident the locals staged a demonstration by blocking the NH 55 and demanded compensation to the kin of the family. In another incident, seven persons were reportedly sustained critical injuries in a series of accidents near Bhatapada square, on Cuttack-Chandabali road in Cuttack district today. According to the locals, a mini truck collided with an auto-rickshaw head-on in the middle of the road near Bhatapada square. Following the accident a car driver applied sudden brake and a truck hit the car. The injured were rushed to SCB Hospital by the locals. On being informed the Salepur police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter after seizing all the vehicles.
