1 killed, 3 injured in post-poll-violence in Gamjam’s Aska

Man beaten up to death for playing loudspeaker at temple in Gujarat

Behrampur, March 13: At least one person was killed while three were grievously injured in a post-poll-violence case that occurred in Aska block of Ganjam district on Saturday night.

The deceased has been identified as Bulu Swain.

According to reports, the fierce fight broke two rival groups over a trivial dispute near Kendupadar College in Aska block.  During the clash, the victims were attacked with sharp weapons leaving three persons injured while one of them succumbed to his injuries.

Following the clash, all the victims were rushed to the Aska hospital. Later, one person was shifted to Berhampur MKCG after his condition deteriorated.

It is also alleged by the locals that the two groups have a history of being loggerheads over several matters.

Notably, the Ganjam district has witnessed several pre-poll-violence during the recent Panchayat elections in Odisha.

At least six people were injured after they were attacked by a rival group while they were on their way to file nomination for their candidate in Ramachandrapur Panchayat under Chikiti Block in January.

In another incident, three persons were injured after violent clashes broke out between two groups from Mundamarai village under Dharakote block in the district on January 18.
