Bhubaneswar, August 2: The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has on Saturday ruled out the possibility of widespread heavy rain in Odisha over the next few days. However, isolated light to moderate showers are likely in parts of interior northern Odisha and select coastal districts.
In its latest bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in some areas. Wind speeds are expected to reach 30–40 kmph at times. As a precaution, a yellow warning has been issued for 20 districts, effective today and tomorrow.
This weather pattern is expected to persist for the next three days before a gradual decline in rainfall activity across the state.
So far, Odisha has received 10% more rainfall than the seasonal average during this monsoon. Sixteen districts have registered normal rainfall, while nine have reported excess precipitation. Meanwhile, five districts are experiencing rainfall deficiency.
The Special Relief Commission Office has urged residents to remain vigilant during thunderstorms and to adhere to safety advisories issued by local administrations.
