Cuttack, August 18: At a time when a minor girl’s suicidal row has created a challenge for the Cuttack police to crack, yet another girl has allegedly attempted self-immolation and died in the Mahanaga area on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Rina Mallik, a native of the Anandpur village under the Mahanga block limit.
Sources said, Rina reportedly set herself on fire before her residence after pouring kerosene oil on her body. She was rescued and rushed to the hospital in critical condition where she succumbed to burn injuries.
On being informed, police seized the body and initiated an investigation.
The reason behind the suicidal bid is yet to be ascertained. However, the primary investigation indicates that she might have taken the extreme step for her continuous health problem, said police.
Earlier, a minor girl, who hails from the Mahanga area, had allegedly ended her life after an audio-visual featuring some of her intimate moments reportedly went viral.
