According to reports, Niharika Sahoo of Manjuri Road area in Bhadrak district was in love with Suvendu Nayak of Byasavihar area under Jajpur road police limits in Jajpur district. They had tied the nuptial knot as per Hindu rituals in presence of their family members two years ago. However, their marital life turned bitter when Niharika came to know about Suvendu’s extramarital affair with another woman. Later, her husband and in-laws started dowry torture as she opposed her husband’s illicit affair following which she came to her father’s house and lodged a written complaint at Jajpur Road police station. However, police did not take any action. Acting on the complaint, Mahila police reached at her in-laws’ house on Friday and seized the dowry items. On the other hand, the complainant has claimed that besides the dowry items her family had given a bond of Rs 10 lakh and gold ornaments over 300 gm, which Suvendu’s family has denied terming it baseless. The victim's family has demanded arrest of the accused and his family members.
