Week-long special drive clears C & D waste in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Sep 19: The week-long intensive awareness and cleaning drive on Construction and Demolition Waste(C & D Waste) started on September 13 witnessed lifting of nearly 1500 metric tons of such waste by end of the drive today. Team of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) made day wise coverage of ward level areas to conduct awareness, cleaning and enforcement drive. This intensive package involved ward officers, sanitary inspectors, experts and Swachha Sathis of each area. Outreach activities conducted include dissemination of messages in special tableaus, small group discussion in communities, messages in print and electronic media, discussion with violators and demonstration of placards. “The intensive drive conducted for a week has created sensitization among citizens. This has ultimately cleaned huge quantity of unclaimed debris put on public places and road sides promoting safety and sanitation for citizens in all wards. Instant complaint of citizens related to C & D Waste from different wards are also addressed during the drive”; told Commissioner Sanjaya Kumar Singh. Adequate number of vehicle support like JCB, Hywa, Tippers and Tractors were provided to each administrative zone of BMC to manage on the ground lifting of debris. The vehicles lifted 294 trips of debris and 7 trips of construction materials during the drive days. Enforcement team members of each administrative zone along with central enforcement team were engaged to support the drive and manage violators. Waste lifting trips were unloaded at two deposit points at Patia and Kargil Basti. A total number of 54 notices issued and approximate fine of Rs.5.5 lakh collected from violators.
