Vulnerability of Omicron is yet to be established: Health Director

Bhubaneswar, Nov 30: The scope and nature of Omicron, the newly traced variant of Covid-19 is under study. Vulnerability of the Omicron is yet to be established so far, said Director of Health, Doctor Bijoy Mohapatra on Sunday. Mohapatra said a technical committee of health is studying Omicron as per the guidelines of the National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At the same time, global experts and specialized teams are examining it, if it’s more fatal than the Delta variant. Omicron is a new variant that has been traced in South Africa. No case history has been traced out in India yet. However, the state health officials are all set to get rid of the new variant through testing, tracing, treatment and vaccination. RTPCR testing and Genome sequencing have been beefed up across the state. Similarly, line department officials have kept a close watch on foreign tourists and international commuters. Screening teams have been deployed at the Biju Patnaik International Airports to take account of the infected ones, Mohapatra added.
