Phulbani, August 6: Phiringia Police on Sunday arrested at least 15 persons in connection with the triggering violence inside the police station.
Further investigation led by IG, Southern Range Satyabrata Bhoi is underway to probe the reason behind the violence and the alleged involvement of cops in cannabis smuggling.
Sources said a mob on Saturday set the Phiringia police station on fire alleging its IIC and two home guards’ involvement in Ganja smuggling. They blazed furniture, vehicles, and important records of police barging into the police station, aggrieved over the inaction of authorities against the alleged cops.
Responding to the media, IG Satyabrata Bhoi said the situation is now under control. However, Section 144 has been imposed in the area and 10 platoons of armed forces have been deployed here to tackle unforeseen situations.
