Vigilance books former Special Public Prosecutor in DA case

Bhubaneswar, July 23: Vigilance Directorate today booked Ashutosh Mishra, the former special public prosecutor in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. Mishra who was a special public prosecutor in the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna was earlier arrested on July 3 after he was caught red-handed while receiving bribe of Rs 1 lakh. Mishra had demanded the bribe from Malay Kumar Rana, ASI (now under suspension) of Kalahandi district in order to help him in a vigilance case charge-sheeted against him. Subsequently, a search was conducted at his residential house located at Radhakrushna Nagar, Bhawanipatna and assets worth Rs 85.02 lakh was detected including cash of Rs 15.6 lakh. “During the course of further enquiry, income and expenditure of Mishra was ascertained and he was found in possession of assets worth Rs 75.65 lakh disproportionate to his known sources of income,” said an official. His appointment was also terminated by the government on July 16.
