Vigil now on South Odisha after Western Odisha; raid in Jeypore and Sunabeda against illegal stocking of cough syrup

Jeypore, Feb 5: After Western Odisha, police has now started raids in South Odisha against unauthorised stocking and sale of cough syrup. Police today raided the residence of  Gananath medicine shop owner in Lingaraj Nagar of Jeypore in Koraput district and seized 800 cough syrup bottles. The medicine shop owner has been detained. Staff of Jeypore Sadar and Town police stations and Jeypore drug inspector were involved in the raid. Huge amount of cough syrup was also seized from Sunabeda town yesterday.   {"id":25838,"sizeSlug":"large"} Police has woken up following sting operation by News 7 TV channel on January 4 exposing rampant sale of cough syrup by the medicine shops in Western Odisha without any license. Drug addicts consume cough syrup as it has high alcoholic content. Sale of cough syrup without license has been banned. Police has so far arrested 58 persons in Western Odisha in connection with the illegal sale of cough syrup following News 7 sting operation.
