Bhubaneswar, March 18: The health centre on the premises the Utkal University here does not have medicines for common diseases like fever.
A girl student of the varsity was suffering from high fever and vomiting. When she reached the hospital, the attending doctor checked her heath and prescribed some medicines. However, the medicine centre failed to provide the prescribed medicines. The patient had to buy medicines from a medicine store outside the campus.
The appointed doctor is visiting the health centre regularly and treating patients. But the health centre does not have medicines expect two-three common medicines. The centre does not have ambulance service also. Poisonous snakes are frequently spotted in the forest area of the campus. However, the centre lacks anti-venom injections, alleged a hostel border Sudhansu Kumar Sahoo.
The toilet has no water supply and has got damaged. Most of the students, teachers and other employees of the university often depend upon Capital Hospital and a few private hospitals for healthcare due to lack of proper healthcare facilities
The state government had set up the health centre to provide primary healthcare to students, especially to hostel boarders and staff residing inside the campus premises. However, shortage of health staff and basic amenities has affected its functioning.
