Malkangiri has improved a lot as an Aspiring district : UNDP

Malkangiri, June 13: The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has recognized Malkangiri district in Odisha for its spectacular development as an Aspiring District. The overall achievements of the district on health, nutrition and Covid management have been applauded by the UNDP report. The Country Head of UNDP-India Saka Nadda has submitted the report before the NITI Aayog in this connection on Friday. At the same time, NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar and Chief Executive Officer Amitabh Kant have recommended some additional development program to be undertaken for the district. According to the report, being a remote district of Odisha, Malkangiri has managed corona outbreak meticulously. Despite its location adjacent to Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh border,it has contained the virus up to the mark. Similarly, the district has seen spectacular growth in basic infrastructure, utilization of water resources for agriculture, skill development and financial inclusion after targeted intervention of the Centre. Inclusion of the Mao hit hilly district under Aspiring District Programme(ADP) has improved livelihood of the inhabitants with increasing faith on the development mechanisms.  As a result, rate of malaria eradication programme, institutional safe delivery, fight against malnutrition and mass acceptance for health and crop insurance have got immense success than ever before. Notably, Malkangiri had been taken as one of the beneficiary districts under the aegis of Aspiring District Programme since 2018 in order to achieve all round development in the district.
