Two arrested from Bengal for cheating on pretext of installing mobile towers

Cuttack, July 8: Jagatpur police today arrested two persons for allegedly duping a man Rs 30 lakh on the pretext of setting up a mobile tower on his land. The accused have been identified as Anilesh Anand (23) and Ankit Roy (23), both hailing from Bengal. Police have also seized cash worth Rs 25.7 lakh, one SUV and 17 passbooks from the accused. Police said that the victim identified as Dillip Kumar Sahoo received a call in December 2019 and the caller identified himself as a nodal officer of a leading cellular company. The caller offered him a proposal to set up a mobile tower on his land. Subsequently, the victim deposited money to the tune of Rs 39 lakh in several phases. Subsequently, the victim lodged a police complaint on June 4. During the course of the investigation, a police team visited Kolkata and found a fraud telecom company operating at Salt Lake City of Kolkata with eight offices and more than 250 employees. “They were managing a call centre services to contact persons all over India for installation of mobile towers. The employees of this fraud company are well trained in the same style of a corporate office and cheated innocent persons fraudulently by a team of experienced educated professional fraudsters. The company was managed by its Chairman and mastermind fraudster Abhay Tiwari of Bihar. Tiwari was arrested earlier by Bengal police and he is now lodged at Dumdum jail in Kolkata,” said a police official.
