Rath Yatra: Trinity step ahead for the birth cradle

Puri, July 2: The Trinity on the 2nd day of the annual sojourn stepped ahead for the Adapa Mandap, the birth altar of the deities in the Gundicha temple on Saturday. According to the ritual, the sloping staircases made up of palm planks were fixed to the chariots in the morning. Subsequently, the Mudirasta (the official representative of the Gajapati king ) paid a ceremonial visit to the three deities and offered flowers. Later, the deities were bedecked withTahias (headgear made of bamboo and flowers). Following this, the pahandi bije ( carrying deities in a swaying manner in procession) ritual was performed in the evening. Thousands of devotees thronged to have a glance of the Adapa Bije ritual of Lord Jagannath and his siblings today evening. The deities will remain in Gundicha temple for the next seven days.
