Srinagar, Aug 11: The death toll from an anti-terror operation in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir rose to three on Sunday, with one civilian succumbing to injuries sustained in the encounter. Abdul Rashid Dar, who was wounded in terrorist firing on Saturday, passed away early Sunday at a local hospital.

The operation, which took place in the Ahlan Gagarmandu forest, led to a fierce gunfight between terrorists and security forces, resulting in the deaths of two Army personnel. The firefight began on Saturday evening during a cordon and search operation initiated based on intelligence reports of terrorist presence in the remote forest at an altitude of 10,000 feet.

In addition to the fatalities, six Army personnel and two civilians were injured. Despite challenging terrain, security forces continue their efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists. Reinforcements have been deployed, and operations are ongoing.

This encounter is reminiscent of a similar operation in the Kokernag area last September, which saw significant casualties among security forces. The current operation is part of intensified efforts to neutralize terrorist threats in the region, especially following recent incidents in the nearby Doda district. The situation remains tense as security forces persist in their mission.
