Swetaparna Panda reaches semifinal of Odisha Open

Cuttack, Jan 28: As many as 18 matches were played on the fourth day of Odisha Open Super 100, the first ever International badminton tournament of Badminton World Federation at Odisha. Priyanshu Rajawat (India) defeated Mithun Manjunath (India) in a three-game thriller 13-21 21-14 21-8 to reach semifinals. Kiran George (India) also overcame stiff challenge against Shubhankar Dey (India). Malvika Bansod (India) prevailed over Tanya Hemanth. Smit Toshniwal (India) defeated Ishika Jaiswal (USA) to reach the final four whileUnnati Hooda and Ashmita Chaliha also won their respective quarter-final to reach the semis. Similarly, Krishna Prasad/Vishu Vardhan went down against Sri Lankan pair, a major upset in Men’s Doubles.  They will face Malaysian pair Nur Mohd/Lim Khim Wah in the semis. Treesa Jolly/Gayathri Gopichand (India) registered a comfortable win to advance into the semis. Sanyogita Ghorpade/Shruti Mishra (India) also won their quarterfinal and will play Srevidya G (India)/Ishika Jaiswal (USA) for a place in the finals. Swetaparna Panda/B Yadav reached the semifinals of the mixed doubles, making Swetaparna Panda, a local Odia girl, the first women from her state to feature in a Super 100 Semifinals.
