Cuttack, June 2: The Crime Branch STF on Thursday unearthed skeletal remnants of an elephant from the Athgarh forest. The STF team excavated the remnants of the pachyderm from the Chandragiri reserve forest under the Gopapur beat in the Badamba Range. Sources said the STF had inputs regarding an elephant’s carcass which was disposed of after poaching. Acting on the sources, an 8-member team led by SP, Bilasini Nayak initiated a search operation in the forest with the help of the revenue officials. Meanwhile, they discovered a sizeable bone of an elephant. Subsequently, the total skeletal remains of the carcass were dug out, a few meters away from the bone. Following this, the whole skeleton was seized and the bone sample was collected for postmortem. Further investigation is underway.  The elephant might be poached for collecting tusks, said a forest official.
