New Delhi, June 2: The Supreme Court today reserved its order for tomorrow on a plea challenging the order of the Orissa High Court refusing to restrain the state government from carrying out excavation work around the Shree Jagannath temple at Puri. The apex court has reserved the verdict till Friday after hearing the arguments of both parties. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Hima Kohli heard the matter today. The petition was filed by appellant Sumanta Kumar Ghadei, a social activist and businessman. Earlier, ASI Superintendent Archaeologist had carried out an on-the-spot inspection along with the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) chief administrator Vir Vikram Yadav. Notably, on May 9, the ASI informed the Orissa High Court that no valid permission was given for the heritage corridor project being constructed around the Jagannath Temple. The court had directed the ASI to conduct a joint inspection of the site with the state government and submit a report before the court. The ASI had also informed that the drawing and structural designs included in the revised detailed project report (DPR) are different from the one presented to the National Monument Authority (NMA).
