Special drive to nab absconded criminals in Bhubaneswar UPD

Bhubaneswar, June 6: The Urban Police District (UPD), Bhubaneswar has launched a special drive to nab the absconded criminals. A special squad of Commissionerate Police has nabbed two such offenders within two days while aims to intercept as many as 23 accused those fled away from police vans and court premises. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police Umakanta Dash, at least 25 accused involved with serious offences managed to flee from police custody. A few of them fled from the hazats of police stations while most of the accused escaped either from the hospital during medical checkups or court premises at the time of de-boarding from the police van. At least 6 cases in this connection are pending with Bhubaneswar Commissionerate in which all the absconded are wanted for the police. However, a gang rape accused has been captured after 7 years after his flee from Nayagarh while another wanted for Airfield police was nabbed one year after he allegedly committed violence in the city. Operation is on to nab the other runners, said Dash.
