Bhubaneswar, June 8: A social outfit in the aegis of Seva Pratinidhi Sangathan has started a drive with a demand to promote Lingaraj Public Halt (PH) into a full-fledged station. The organization convened a virtual meeting in this connection on Monday to roll the drive on, among the denizens. Seva Pratinidhi Sangathan President Nilamani Mishra submitted a memorandum to the authorities of East-Coast Railways at the end of the online meet among 20 local elites. The memorandum read, the Lingaraj PH is one of the ancient stations of Khordha. Once upon a time it was the gateway for the passengers to visit the Lingaraj shrine along with other historical heritages of Bhubaneswar. However, the Railways authorities are not developing the station accordingly. At the same time, no more trains halt here as per the importance of the place is getting higher. Particularly, a handful passenger trains have got short-time stoppages over here since years. On the other hand, the local residents depend upon the Bhubaneswar main station or Khordha, Jatani stations to board intercity or an express train for their journey, which are almost 10 kilometers away from it. Thus, the forum demand to improvise the station soon into a full-fledged station where at least the intercity express trains and a few express trains will have their stoppages.
