Bhubaneswar, May 5: After the double retail price of lemon, the price of tomato has shocked each and every citizen especially homemakers in the state. The rate was around Rs 25 to 30 a few days back and now it costs Rs 100 per kg.  The short supply due to a lack of local production has led to the sharp rise in prices. The price of tomato may cross Rs 100 soon, say some Bhubaneswar based vendors. The vendors of Odisha have expressed that the local production of tomatoes is not adequate to meet the demand and the State depends on states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for its supply. On the other hand, most of the consumers anticipate that the price of tomatoes has been hiked intentionally by a handful vendors ahead of the Cyclone 'Asali'.
