Skill development training on oyster mushroom production for women empowerment

Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra today organized a skill development training programme on “Oyster Mushroom Production for Women Empowerment” today for the farmwomen at Danapada undr Balipatna Block. Dr. Harapriya Nayak, Subject Matter Specialist (Home Science) and Course Director of the training programme welcomed the delegates and briefed about the nutritional importance and health benefits of oyster mushroom. She also highlighted that oyster mushrooms have the potential to provide improved and sustainable livelihood opportunity to the farmwomen through post-harvest management, processing and value addition. Sukanti Behera, ACTO (Home Science) explained about the cultivation practices of oyster mushroom. The trainees were taught about low cost substrate for oyster mushroom cultivation, preparation of mushroom bed, disease and pest management in mushroom, compost making from mushroom waste and preparation of different value added products from oyster mushroom.
