Bhubaneswar: The State Government will enforce ban on single-use plastic across the State from tomorrow on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Plastic bags with a thickness less than 50 microns and bottles with a larger size than 200 ml have also been banned.
Forest and Environment Department Principal Secretary Mona Sharma on Monday issued an order banning the use of single-use polythene.
On Gandhi Jayanti last year, the State Government imposed ban on single-use plastic in five urban local bodies – Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Berhampur, and Puri.
“The State Government has now decided to prohibit single use plastic in the remaining municipal limits and municipal corporations in the State,” reads the order issued by the Forest and Environment Department.
The ban in the State coincides with a nationwide clampdown on single-use plastic that kicks off on Gandhi Jayanti tomorrow.
