New Delhi, Aug 18: Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP Shashi Tharoor was today acquitted by a Delhi court in the case of death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar at a five-star hotel in the national capital seven years ago. Pushkar was found dead in the suite of a five-star hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014. The police charged Tharoor in May 2018 with abetment to suicide and marital cruelty under Sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 498A (cruelty by husband) of the Indian Penal Code. Tharoor was the main accused in the case. He was out on bail. In a statement, Tharoor said that the charges against him were “preposterous”. “This brings a significant conclusion to the long nightmare which had enveloped me after the tragic passing of my late wife Sunanda,” Tharoor said in the statement.
