Selfie craze claims lives of 2 youths in Kansbahal dam

Rajgangpur, June 7: The craze for selfies claimed the lives of two persons as they were washed away in Kansbahal dam under Rajgangpur police limits in Sundergarh district while trying to click a picture of themselves. The deceased have been identified as Pramod Parida (37) of Basanti Colony and Sumanta Dey of DAV colony plant site. According to sources, Pramod, Sumanta, Dinesh Singh and Fateh Singh visited Kansbahal. They were enjoying at the Kansbahal dam, clicking selfies. Unfortunately, during one such moment Pramod and Sumanta lost their balance and fell into the water. However, Fateh saved his own. Later, some villagers rescued Pramod. They conducted rescue operation for Sumanta but in-vain. Pramod was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital and later shifted to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) where doctor declared him dead. Being informed by Kansbahal outpost, a police team led by Rajgangpur SDPO D. Sashank Sekhar Beura and fire personnel reached the spot and conducted rescue operations for Sumanta. Later, Panposh fire brigade department officials also joined them. However, by the time Sumanta was traced out, he was already dead. As the news broke, a pall of gloom descended in the steel city.
