Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Self-proclaimed MBBS and multigamist, Bidhu Prakash Swain alias Ramesh Swain, who was recently arrested for conning and marrying at least 17 wives in different parts of the country, is not even a matriculate. Deputy Commisionerate of Police(DCP),Bhubaneswar, Umashankar Dash informed it on Thursday. According to Dash, the Capital city police had contacted the relatives of Swain following his arrest to know his background. They in turn informed the police that Swain had failed to complete his Class 10 studies. However, the authenticity of their statements are under official verification, Dash said. Apart from duping women by acquiring money and other properties after tying them in wed- locks, Swain has conned multiple people on the pretext of providing employment and arranging seat for MBBS courses. Swain had set up two clinics after obtaining franchises of a premier health care centre in Cuttack. One clinic was set up in the Badamba area in the outskirt of Cuttack district while another was functioning in Cuttack city, the DCP said. According to Dash, apart from the doctors at his clinic, 15 of his ‘wives’ have also lodged cheating complaints against Swain alleging duping them in many ways. He had also cheated another doctor of Rs 60,000 on the pretext of getting admission to the latter’s son at King George's Medical College in Lucknow. “We have moved court seeking custodial remand of Swain to conduct further investigation regarding his financial fraud. We also suspect some people are involved in abetting Swain in committing such frauds,” said Dash. Meanwhile, police conducted raids at the rented house of Swain in Patrapada. Several relevant documents have been seized by the sleuths. Further investigation is underway to unearth the other crime records and economic frauds of Swain, said the DCP.
