Bhawanipatna, Sep 6: Sarpanch of Sapur gram Panchayat in Kalahandi district has carried an anti–liquor campaign around his jurisdiction.
Pleading public annoyance, he staged a dharna along with other Panchayati Raj Institution(PRI) members to vacate the foreign liquor off shop located at Chhatikuda village under Sapur GP limit.
To save his skin, the vendor has lodged a complaint against the Panchayat Raj functionary alleging extortion and dacoity from the liquor shop.
Sources said Sapur Sarpanch Tikeram Sahu has launched an antiliquor move around his gram panchayat. Accordingly, he is in favour of evacuating Mohanlal Pradhan’s foreign liquor off shop that is at Chhatikuda market.
However, Pradhan has lodged a complaint against Sahu with Narla police on Monday alleging that Sahu demanded a bribe to continue the shop late on Sunday night. Besides, he snatched Rs 1.75 lakh cash and liquor bottles from the shop. Subsequently, Pradhan submitted CCTV footage to police in this connection.
Aggrieved over it, the Sarpanch and the Samiti members of the Narla block staged a dharna before the Narla police station. The protestants demanded to withdraw the complaint against the Sarpanch and evacuate the liquor shop from their vicinity.
On the other hand, police have initiated an investigation on the basis of the CCTV footage. However, no comet in this connection has been sourced from police, so far.
