Bhubaneswar, Feb 29:  Saptagiri Ulaka, the sitting Lok Sabha member from Koraput seat, is poised to contest the Lok Sabha election once again from this seat as a Congress candidate. His candidature appears almost certain after a meeting with Congress President Malikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. The party is likely to field him in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Apart from Ulaka, other 11 aspirants have also submitted online applications for the party ticket to represent the Koraput parliamentary seat. But sitting MP Saptagiri Ulaka will once again contest as the party candidate in the ensuing election.

Additionally, the Congress has finalized its candidates for two assembly constituencies that fall within the Koraput Lok Sabha constituency.

Appalaswamy Kadrak will be contesting from the Rayagada assembly seat.

Nilamadhav Hikakka is set to contest from the Bisham Cuttack seat as the party candidate.

Furthermore, the Congress has given the green signal to three leaders for campaigning in their respective constituencies. However, in the Gunupur assembly segment, where there is a high demand for Congress tickets, the final decision is still pending. The party may consider nominating a candidate from the family of former Chief Minister Giridhara Gomango.

Despite narrow margins of defeat in the 2019 elections, both Appalaswamy Kadrak and Nilamadhav Hikakka remain key players, and the party aims to field them again in the upcoming election.
