Sambalpur: Jhankarpali PEO arrested for possessing disproportionate assets

Sambalpur, Dec 8: Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday arrested Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) of Jhankarpali Gram Panchayat under Jujumura Block in Sambalpur district for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of more than Rs 1 Crore. Sources said, the vigilance team carried out raids and unearthed one double-story building at Kuchinda Maulibandhapada, one single ACC sheet building at Subarnapali, three-stall at Subarnapali, two plots at Kuchinda and Sankarma in Sambalpur district, one two-wheeler, Insurance deposits of over Rs.10.43 Lakh, Bank deposits of over Rs.1.15 Lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totaling over Rs 1.12 Crore following allegations of accumulation of disproportionate assets on 6th December 2021. On the basis of which the accused PEO, Achyutananda, was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which he could not account for satisfactorily. Cases have been registered bearing no.44/2021 against Achyutananda Khuntia and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act-2018 at Sambalpur Vigilance Police Station.
