Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: With the general elections just six months away, the list of aspirants in major political parties in the Khurda assembly constituency continues to grow. The aspirants in BJP and BJD are actively interacting with voters in the constituency. They are seen at various places, like sports tournaments, fairs, festivals, and meetings in the area.
BJD MLA Jyotrindra Nath Mitra and Begunia MLA Rajendra Kumar Sahoo are front runners for the BJD ticket in the coming election. Apart from two leaders, Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev, who was suspended from BJD now become a cause of concern for the party. He is also holding meetings in various places in Khurda constituency.
Basanti Mohapatra is also seen in most of the meetings. Her supporters are also saying that Basanti should get the ticket this time. Similarly, former Zilla Parishad chairman Rama Mohapatra, after being deprived of the Congress ticket last time, has joined BJD and is also hopeful for a BJD ticket.
Aspirants in BJP have also started lobbying. Kalucharan Kheditaray, the state working member, defeated in 2019, continues to hold party programmes in the area. Some new aspirants like district BJP president Rashmi Ranjan Mohapatra and Laxmikant Mohapatra are separately participating in various fairs, festivals, and meetings. It is said that they all are eager to contest the election this time.
It is also said that Congress leaders, former MLA Dilip Srichandan and Swagatika Patnaik are also hopeful to contest the election from Khurda in 2024.
