Bhubaneswar: A united Opposition today forced adjournments in the Odisha Assembly over increasing incidents of rape of minors in the State.
The Assembly proceeding was stalled twice till 3 pm as Opposition Congress and BJP members stormed into the Well of the House demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik holding him and his Government responsible for the rising incidents of rape of minors in the State.
Noisy scenes were witnessed during the Zero Hour as legislators belonging to the two parties trooped into the Well demanding shouting slogans against the Government.
Raising the issue of rape of a minor girl in Angul, Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik said that minor girls were not safe in the State as such instances are increasing alarmingly.
Naik also targeted the Government over rising number of children missing cases.
Congress Legislature Party leader Narasingha Mishra also raised the issue involving a minor girl being sexually harassed in a shelter home in Bhawanipatna.
As noisy scenes persisted, Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro adjourned the House at 12.17 pm till 12.30 pm.
When the House reassembled the Opposition members stuck to their demands forcing the Speaker to adjourn the House at 12.32 pm till 3 pm.
