London, July 9: India has plenty of talents to replace outgoing T20 World Cup winning captain Rohit Sharma, his teammates Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja in the shortest format of the game. But the formidable trio should have won more white-ball trophies between them for India.
This cheeky jibe came from former England captain turned commentator Michael Vaughan, who believes the big three of Indian cricket - Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja have immense potentials and they should have won more white-ball World Cup titles for India.
He reminded that India won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 and after 17 years, the cricket powerhouse lifted the T20 World Cup again in 2024. Similarly, after 2011 ODI World Cup, India have not won another 50-over World Cup title.
With exceptional cricketers like Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja around for so long, India could have lifted more World Cup titles, Vaughan remarked.
Speaking about their potential replacements, Vaughan stated India have plenty of talents to take their places in the shortest format and that should not be a big problem.
However, Vaughan agreed that quitting any format of cricket or the game, with a World Cup title is a special feeling. Three of them Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja can be proud of quitting T20I cricket with a World Cup trophy in hand, Vaughan admitted.
However, it is interesting that Vaughan's own team England, where the game originated, has won the ODI World Cup only once in 2019 and managed to win the T20 World Cup twice only (in 2010 and 2022).
In comparison, India have won four ICC World Cups (1983 ODI WC, 2007 T20 WC, 2011 ODI WC and 2024 T20 WC), where as England have won only three.
Hopefully, Indian supporters and former players may counter and troll Vaughan for his remarks on Team India's World Cup winning heroes Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja.
