Bhubaneswar, April 8: Rising athlete Arpita Parida dreams to participate in the Olympics in future. Being a finalist for Common Wealth Games for Schools after achieving outstanding performance in the South Asian Federation of All Sports (SAFAS), Arpita aims to play Olympics in her career.
Arpita, a native of Bondamunda village under Sundergarh district, is right now a student of class XII in Bondamunda Kendriya Vidyalaya under Sundergarh district.
Arpita entered the field of Athletics in class VIII. Initially, she took part in shot put and discus throw in the school annual sports that brought success for her. Gradually she mastered over ‘discus throw’ after regular practice.
In class IX, she emphasized in sports and athletics along with her academics and bagged success.
Her parents extended moral support and encouraged her to opt for athletics as a career. Coach Ashok Prasant guided her technically to groom her as a leading discuss thrower, following which she dedicated her prime time to practise events regularly apart from her formal education.
Meanwhile, she was successfully selected for the International School Games organised by South Asian Federation of All Sports (SAFA) in Nepal.
Arpita set a new record of 42.10 metre in discus throw there. Subsequently, she was upgraded as a finalist for Common Wealth Game for Schools.
‘I will try my best to achieve success in the Common Wealth Game. Apart from it, I dream to play Olympics in future’, said Arpita.
