Restrictions on conduct of cremation rituals at Puri Swargadwar lifted

Puri, Jan 27: The Puri district administration has lifted restrictions clamped on conduct of cremation rituals at Swargadwar and immersion of ashes at Mahodadhi for people belonging to other districts and states. Earlier in the month, the district administration has decided to entertain bodies belonging to the Puri district for cremation. The decision was taken in view of surging Covid and Omicron cases. The restrictions came into effect on January 7. RT-PCR negative report was also made mandatory at Puri Swargadwara for the cremation of bodies. Officials said that funeral rites have been allowed with strict adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols. The relatives of the deceased need to submit the necessary documents relating to the deceased at reception counter of Swargadwar Seva Samiti and maximum 10 persons will be allowed to accompany the deceased. The relatives of the deceased also need to strictly follow the Covid Appropriate Behaviour (CAB) such as use of face mask properly, hand sanitisers and maintenance of social distancing of two meters.
