SOURABHA PARIDA Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: Controversial Opera artist Rani Panda’s campaigning for insignificant independent candidate for Balasore assembly by poll Benudhar Barik has suddenly turned the spotlight of TV journalism. Benudhar, a resident of Gudipada in Balasore town, a barber by profession, has turned talk of the state after item girl Panda campaigned for him. Who is Rani Panda? The sizzling dance moves of Rani brought her overnight popularity and since then she has been in limelight. Setting a new trend in Jatra item songs through her seductive dance moves she has dominated the Jatra industry in just few years. But she landed in trouble after a complaint was lodged against her at Khandagiri police station last year as she bit the ear of a young viewer during an item song performance. The Commissionerate Police, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Jatra organising committee imposed a ban on her troupe Jatra Sachidanandam from staging performance at the Khandagiri Jatra Mahotsav on allegations of performing nudity. After months of silence she came with a new image in March and contributed Rs 50,000 to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for Covid-19, the first one from entertainment industry. {"id":77399,"sizeSlug":"large"} Then in September she ventured into flood affected areas in Jajpur district and distributed relief to the people. The same month the actress visited Mahanga area of Cuttack district to help out fire mishap victims and distributed clothes, ration and extended financial help to the affected families. Rani further came to media when she along with local leaders distributed ‘Abadha’ (cooked mahaprasad )and clothes to the poor families at Teisipur and Patanaikia under Pipili block in Puri district on the 11th-day death rituals of former Odisha minister and senior BJD leader Pradeep Maharathy. {"id":77400,"sizeSlug":"large"} She also observed the 11th-day death rituals of Maharathy at an old age home here in Bhubaneswar.
