Mumbai, Aug 17: The Rajinikanth-starrer film titled 'Jailer' achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing the 200 crore mark in India on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day. Since its theatrical debut on August 10, the movie has rapidly scaled to great heights.
In terms of figures, 'Jailer' has accumulated a substantial 225.65 crores alone within India. Additionally, the film's worldwide box office earnings have soared past the impressive 450 crore benchmark. This achievement even surpasses the total collection of Mani Ratnam's acclaimed work, 'PS2'.
Within the first week of release, the film garnered an impressive box office collection of Rs 159.02 crore in Tamil Nadu. Remarkably, 'Jailer' has set a new speed record by becoming the fastest movie to reach the 150-crore mark in Tamil Nadu's history.
The film's box office journey commenced on an astounding note, raking in an impressive Rs 48.35 crore on its opening day in India. While 'Jailer' maintains a strong presence in the Southern states, the Northern regions are currently dominated by Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2'.
The performance of 'Jailer' at the box office was particularly notable on Independence Day, where it amassed a noteworthy sum of Rs 33 crore bringing its overall India collection to Rs 207.15 crore.
The storyline of ‘Jailer’ revolves around Muthuvel Pandian, a stern jailer, who sets out to stop a gang when they try to free their leader from prison.
