Bhubaneswar, Sep 14: Incessant rain has caused havoc in as many as 111 blocks of Odisha affecting around 20,46,112 people across the state. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena said to the media personnel on Tuesday. Taking stock of the flash-flood situation, SRC said,20 districts of Odisha have received heavy rainfall for the last 72 hours. The record heavy rain that is pounding Odisha for days together has claimed at least four persons died, hit over 2870 houses and inundated extensive areas in 20 districts prompting authorities to launch evacuation of as many as 13,534 people from low lying areas by Monday, officials said. Rain has severely affected 27 urban areas including, the capital city of Bhubaneswar received more than 195 mm rainfall, breaking a 63-year-old record. At the same time, Puri town recorded 341 mm rainfall at the time.
