Bhubaneswar: Congress president Rahul Gandhi arrived in Bhubaneswar today. He was accorded welcome at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here by PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, party State in-charge Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra and a host of senior State-level leaders.
Rahul’s visit comes close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three back-to-back visits to the State in last one month. It was Rahul’s first visit to Odisha as party president. Before this, Rahul had a two-day visit of the State more than three years ago, in September 2015, when he was party’s vice-president.
The visit is crucial for the party in the State where several senior leaders, including two MLAs – Naba Kishore Das and Jogesh Singh – quit the party recently.
Assembly election in Odisha would be held along with Lok Sabha polls.
Rahul will address a rally, christened as ‘Parivartan Sankalp Samavesh’ at Tamando Stadium on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar. He will also meet intellectuals during his day-long visit here.
He will also meet employees of the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL).
Rahul’s visit will be followed by BJP president Amit Shah’s tour to Odisha on January 29 and February 3.
