Puri Jagannath temple to go plastic free from April 1

Puri, March 4: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has decided to impose ban on use of plastic items inside the temple premises from April 1. The decision was taken in the meeting of Chhattisa Nijioga today. SJTA chief administrator Krishan Kumar said that steps will be taken in this regard in consultation with the district collector. Besides the temple administration has also decided to impose penalty of Rs 500 for spitting inside the temple premises. The penalty will be applicable to devotees and servitors as well. Earlier in August the temple administration has imposed a complete ban on paan and gutkha on the premises of the temple. It had also collected penalty of Rs 100 each on people for possession of paan and gutkha inside the shrine.
