Puri, July 11: Puri district administration has imposed Section 144 of CrPC ahead of the Ratha Yatra 2021 scheduled to be held on Monday. The district administration has issued a notification in this connection on Saturday evening. The curfew will remain in force from 8 PM on July 11 to 8 PM on July 13, said the notification. By this order, visitors, pilgrims, and the natives of Puri town have been asked not to come to the Badadanda (Grand Road) for 48 hours. The Odisha government has sealed all entry points to Puri and restrictions have been imposed to keep devotees at bay in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Puri Collector Samarth Verma on Saturday said that the owners of hotels and lodgings have been asked to ensure that no tourists stay put in the town during the Rath Jatra. Private guest houses of various companies and corporate houses have also been given similar instructions, he said. Ahead of the curfew, the state government gave some relaxation to residents of Puri on Saturday. The government has appealed to the people not to visit Puri during the festival and instead watch the live broadcast of the Ratha Yatra on television. On the other hand, the aborigines of Puri town have been asked to fetch the essential commodities prettily before the order comes into force. Thus, the weekend shutdown has been relaxed for them on Sunday. Notably, the Odisha government has banned congregation and common darshan of Puri Ratha Yatra as a precaution against Corona infection at the heritage.
