Poverty-stricken woman deprived of housing benefit in Keonjhar

Keonjhar, July 4: While the State and Centre have introduced several schemes to provide housing for all poor people by 2022, reports of irregularities have come to the fore in the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. Sukanti Nayak, a poverty-stricken woman of ward no.7 of Govardhan panchayat under Sadar block in Keonjhar district still lives in a dilapidated house. According to the sources, Nayak and her family of seven members are living in a kutcha house. The house is in completely dilapidated condition. She has no resources to construct a pucca house. Recently, the wall of the house got collapsed. In this situation, seven members of the family are living in extreme misery. Now, the monsoon rain has added to their woes. The family expressed their dissatisfaction over the tardy pace of implementation of the PMAY. Nayak alleged that she has appealed to the government several times for help to get a concrete house, but his plea fell on deaf ears. When contacted to sarpanch Satyabhama Panda, she said, “ I have seen Sukanti’s house condition but I can't do anything. Sukanti needs to avail facilities from the government.”
