Panic over elephant menace in Nilgiri

Nilgiri, 18/11: Panic gripped Nilgiri area of Balasore district, as a herd of elephants from Jharkhand is moving towards the area. The herd consisting around 45 pachyderms had been staying in Dalki forest on Nilgiri-Mayurbanj border since last few days. The herd is now moving towards Nilgiri after crossing the Budhabalang river. {"id":20575,"sizeSlug":"large"} The Forest department is keeping close vigil on the movement of the elephant herd. The departmental officers have made solar fencing and trench arrangements to obstruct the herd. Sources said the villagers were in panic as the elephant herd was expected to cause massive damage to the ripe paddy which has not been harvested.
