Over 100 doctors test COVID-19 positive within 24 hours in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jan 3: The city of Kolkata, on Sunday, reported 3,194 COVID-19 cases, out of which over 100 doctors from three different hospitals were tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. At least 70 doctors of Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, 24 medical practitioners of Chittaranjan Seva Sadan and Shishu Sadan Hospital in Kalighat, and 12 of the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology were found positive of COVID-19. “The doctors have been asked to go for institutional quarantine. Contact tracing has begun, and the process of clinical examination of everyone in the three hospitals has started” said an official to the media. With the positivity rate of the state increased to 5.47%, the Mamata-Banerjee-led government issued lockdown like restrictions throughout the state on January 2, 2022. A night curfew has been imposed in the state wherein no establishment or transport is allowed to operate from 10 pm to 5 am. Meanwhile, All flights from the UK have been temporarily suspended from January 3, 2022, and all other incoming international passengers will have to undergo a mandatory Rapid Antigen Test.
