Cuttack, June 12: An OUAT team has left for the Athgarh forest to treat the gun-shot tusker on Sunday. A panel of doctors led by surgery Professor Indramani Nath and medicine Professor Niranjan Sahu was sent to the Jaypur reserve forest under the Athgarh division in the morning. Sources said that a gun-shot young tusker struggles with its life despite the treatment of the veterinarians for the last four days. As many as six shots fired to it have caused critical wounds in its body. Consequently, the pachyderm lost its strength and was caught by the forest officials in an ill health. Following this an invasive care was undertaken by the Narasinghapur veterinarians and the wildlife specialists of the Satakosia Wildlife Division, but in vain.Acting on it, the OUAT team was recruited to treat the standstill elephant today in order to operate the wounds. Apart from it, the team examined the elephant's body with a metal detector to ascertain the presence of more bullets in the elephant’s body which will be immediately brought out after an invasive surgery.
