Cuttack, Dec 23: The Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday arrested a pangolin smuggler and rescued a live pangolin from his possession. The accused have been identified as Santosh Kumar Dalai of Jagatsinghpur. On the basis of reliable information, STF team conducted a raid on the road near Biribati Canal Road, Kandarpur under Cuttack district about a deal of sale of pangolin and arrested Dalai. The pangolin has been handed over to the authorities of Nandankanan zoo. Forest officials said that the Pangolin, a Schedule I animal, is one of the most trafficked animals in the world. “The animal scale is used for ornamental purpose while the animal scale has also demand for medicinal purposes to treat cancer, stomach ailments, and blood-related problems. Indian Pangolin is the world’s most trafficked mammal for its medicinal values, scales and meat,” said a police official.
