Omicron Scare: No cheers for Mumbaikars as BMC bans New Year parties

Mumbai, Dec 30: In view of rising concerns over the spread of the new Covid-19 variant Omicron and in a bid to prevent large gatherings, Mumbai has imposed Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrCP) from today till Jan 7, 2022 prohibiting any kind of celebration. These restrictions were imposed to prevent the further spread of the new strain. Police has prohibited New Year's celebrations, parties in any closed or open space incl restaurants, hotels, bars, pubs, resorts and clubs from Dec 30 Dec till Jan 7. Moreover, Urging people not to panic, Thackeray, who is also the guardian minister of Mumbai’s suburban district, urged everyone to exercise extreme caution in the wake of a sharp rise in coronavirus cases in Mumbai and stressed vaccination and widespread use of face masks. All public places in the city will remain shut on December 31 and strict action will be taken against Covid-19 violators.
